Estienne, Charles (1504-1564)

Biographisches Stichwort

Charles Estienne, geboren um 1504 als dritter Sohn des Druckers Henri Estienne, studierte Medizin, erhielt 1542 in Paris die Doktorwürde, verfaßte Schriften zu Medizin und Landwirtschaft, die meist im Verlag seines Bruders, Robert Estienne, erschienen. Als Robert 1551 nach Genf zog, übernahm der katholisch gebliebene Charles die Firma. Er soll 1564 nach einem Bankrott im Schuldgefängnis gestorben sein. Vgl. auch sein Praedium rusticum.
